Our legal and compliance practice appoints general counsel, heads of legal, chief compliance officers, money laundering reporting officers and company secretaries. Most of our clients are regulated businesses: insurers, banks, asset managers, payments firms and listed companies, where the legal function sits close to the board and the cost of a poor hire is measured in fines and lost licences.
We look beyond a candidate’s technical record. A general counsel needs to be trusted by the chief executive, respected by the regulator and clear with the business about what it can and cannot do. We assess for each of those, with structured interviews, case discussions drawn from the client’s own sector and referencing that reaches past the names a candidate puts forward.
Daniel Navid leads the practice from London after a career in private practice and in-house. That background matters when we talk to lawyers who are weighing a move from partnership to industry, or from one regulatory regime to another. We explain the trade-offs honestly and structure offers that recognise what a candidate is leaving behind. The result is a practice with a short time to shortlist and a high rate of first offers accepted.
