Six-month contract moving a travel marketplace’s batch pipelines from Airflow and Redshift to dbt and Snowflake ahead of the January booking peak.
The role
The marketplace sells package holidays and city breaks in nine European countries and handles 14 million bookings a year. Its data platform has grown with the business, and around 400 Airflow jobs now feed a Redshift warehouse that is slow and expensive at peak. The data team has chosen Snowflake and dbt as the replacement, and needs experienced contractors to complete the migration before the January booking peak. You will join a platform team of six and report to the Head of Data Engineering.
What you will do
Migrate the core booking, pricing and customer pipelines from Redshift to Snowflake.
Rebuild transformation logic as tested, documented dbt models.
Set up data quality checks and alerting so problems are caught before reports are affected.
Work with analytics engineers and the pricing team to validate figures in parallel runs.
Leave clear runbooks so the permanent team can operate everything after the contract ends.
What you will bring
Several years as a data engineer, including at least one warehouse migration delivered end to end.
Strong SQL and Python, with production experience of dbt and Snowflake.
Experience with Airflow or a similar orchestrator.
Familiarity with AWS, in particular S3, IAM and Lambda.
The judgement to work independently in a remote team and decide what to rebuild and what to leave alone.
The package
A day rate of £600 to £700 outside IR35 for six months, starting in late October. Fully remote within the UK, with an optional team day in London once a month. Two stages: a technical conversation and a pairing session.
