Six-month interim leading clinical operations across 14 private hospitals, bringing theatre utilisation and NHS referral times back to plan.
The role
The group runs 14 independent hospitals and four diagnostic centres across London and the South East, with annual revenue of £520m. Around 40% of its activity is NHS-funded elective surgery, and demand has risen faster than theatre capacity. The Clinical Operations Director left in September, and the group is running a permanent search alongside this interim appointment. You will report to the Chief Operating Officer and work closely with the Group Medical Director and the Chief Nurse.
What you will do
Lead the 14 hospital directors and the central operations team, who together manage around 3,200 staff.
Raise theatre utilisation from 71% towards the 85% target in the annual plan.
Improve the flow of NHS referrals, including waiting times for first outpatient appointments.
Prepare two hospitals for CQC inspections expected early next year.
Hand over a clear plan and set of measures to the permanent hire.
What you will bring
Senior operational leadership in acute care, ideally in both NHS and independent sector settings.
A record of improving theatre productivity and elective activity.
Experience of preparing hospitals for CQC inspection.
The ability to lead a dispersed network and spend time on site at each hospital.
Availability to start within four weeks.
