Lead 220 engineers at a payments platform processing $90bn a year as it adds real-time rails and prepares for public-market scrutiny.
The role
The company provides embedded payments and payouts to software platforms in the US and Canada, processing around $90bn a year for more than 4,000 business customers. It closed a $260m Series D in the spring and aims to be IPO-ready within two years. The founding CTO is moving into a chief architect role, and the board wants an executive who has run engineering at a larger scale. You will report to the CEO and join an executive team of eight.
What you will do
Lead engineering, infrastructure and security, a team of 220 across New York, Toronto and remote.
Deliver FedNow and RTP support and the move to a multi-region architecture on AWS.
Lift availability on the core payments path from 99.95% to 99.99%.
Build SOC 1, PCI DSS and sponsor bank requirements into the engineering process rather than around it.
Shape the engineering leadership team, including a VP Infrastructure and a new CISO.
What you will bring
Experience leading engineering organisations of 200 or more, ideally in payments, banking or another regulated business.
Deep understanding of high-volume, low-latency transaction systems.
Hands-on knowledge of card networks, ACH or real-time payment schemes.
A record of working with sponsor banks, auditors and examiners.
The presence to represent technology to the board and, in time, to public investors.
The package
Base of $380,000 to $450,000, a 40% target bonus and a significant equity grant. Three days a week in the Flatiron office. First interviews w/c 19 October, with a decision expected before the end of November.
