Lead 4,800 nurses, midwives and allied health professionals across three hospitals as the trust works to exit enhanced CQC oversight.
The role
The trust serves a population of 750,000 across Greater Manchester, with three acute and community sites, an annual budget of £1.1bn and 11,000 staff. Following a CQC inspection that rated it Requires Improvement, it is working through an improvement plan agreed with NHS England. The previous Chief Nursing Officer moved to a regional role in the summer, and an interim is in place until January. You will report to the Chief Executive, hold a voting seat on the board and share executive responsibility for quality with the Medical Director.
What you will do
Lead nursing, midwifery and the allied health professions, a workforce of around 4,800.
Take executive ownership of the CQC improvement plan and the quality and safety elements of the board assurance framework.
Lead patient safety, safeguarding, infection prevention and patient experience.
Reduce reliance on agency nursing, which cost £21m last year, through recruitment and retention.
Represent the trust in the integrated care system’s quality and workforce forums.
What you will bring
Current NMC registration and a master’s level qualification.
Experience as a Chief Nursing Officer, Director of Nursing or deputy in a large acute trust.
A record of leading a trust or division through regulatory improvement and sustaining the gains.
Visible, ward-level leadership that staff trust.
Confidence in the boardroom and with regulators, commissioners and the public.
The package
A salary of £160,000 to £180,000 on the VSM framework, the NHS pension and relocation support of up to £8,000. The role is site-based, with time spent across all three hospitals. Stakeholder panels and final interviews take place on 4 and 5 November.
